You have navigated to Dantalian's Vocal Music Page. Here we present our sheet music publications of Donald Martino's vocal music with piano. Mr. Martino has contributed much to the choral and instrumental literature, but has written just a few songs. Particularly popular with singers have been the early tonal songs for high voice FROM THE BAD CHILD'S BOOK OF BEASTS on humorous texts by Belloc, and the lovely SEPARATE SONGS based on texts of Housman and Joyce. Less performed, perhaps because they are for mezzo-soprano voice and bass-baritone voice respectively, are the TWO RILKE SONGS and the THREE SONGS based again on texts by Joyce.
Somehow the vocal music of Donald Martino has gone out of fashion. Where are those grand old days when Martino's melodies were sung by every housewife? And diva's adored it. Here is a quote from an adoring diva from a bygone era: "I just adore the music of Al Martino. Now he's a real composer. Unlike all these phonies of today who have no idea what they have written, Al can sing his songs to you. Boy, they don't come any better than Al! - Lelia Ponselli, retired diva.
